ABOUT GHOST BIKES

Ghost Bikes are white bikes that are used as memorials for bicyclists who are killed or hit on the street. The bikes are locked on a street sign or other object near the sight of the crash. Each
ghost bike has its own unique attributes, such as flowers, a photo, the person’s name, or a written message. They serve as memories and reminders of the tragedies that took place. The
first ghost bike was created in St. Louis, Missouri in 2003. Now there are over 630 bikes in over
210 locations in the world including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Belarus, Canada, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Ecuador, Spain, Finland, France, Guatemala, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Singapore, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States. Ghost bikes are part of a whole global organization,
which has a website and holds events in order to further raise awareness and celebrate the
lives of the people who died. One example of a big event hosted by the organization is the annual memorial rides hosted in various cities, such as New York.
